Job Description
Chief of Staff & Strategy Associate
Location:RemoteEmployment Type:Full-time ICStart Date:To be confirmed
About the Company
We are a U.S.-based advisory firm partnering with founders and leadership teams across the food, agriculture, and biotech industries. We work closely with early-stage companies — primarily at the Seed and Series A stages — supporting them through commercial growth, fundraising, hiring, and the operational challenges of scaling.
Our small, hands-on team operates as an extension of the companies we serve, sitting alongside founders during some of the most pivotal moments of their growth. As client demand grows, we are expanding the team and the systems that support it.
About the Role
This role exists to give our partners real leverage. As we take on more clients and build out the firm, we need someone who can operate on two fronts at once: directly supporting client engagements, and building the internal foundation that allows us to scale.
You will sit close to the partners and move fluidly between client-facing project work and the behind-the-scenes operations that keep the firm running. One week you might be project-managing a Series A client's fundraising timeline; the next, building a financial forecast for the firm or designing a hiring process. It is a high-trust, high-ownership role for someone who wants exposure to both startup advisory work and the business of running an advisory firm itself.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Commercial Support
* Support partners on client projects spanning commercial development, fundraising, and team building for Seed and Series A companies
* Own project management across client engagements — tracking deadlines, deliverables, and follow-through
* Join client calls on an ongoing basis and collaborate across the team to deliver against client needs
Strategy & Firm Operations
* Contribute to the firm's own strategy across marketing, customer acquisition, branding, and growth
* Build and document internal processes that improve how the firm operates
* Develop financial forecasts and models for the firm and, where relevant, for client work
Talent & Team Building
* Help expand the team: draft job descriptions, coordinate and participate in interviews, and support hiring decisions
Required Qualifications
* Clear, professional written and verbal communication
* Strong work ethic and a high degree of responsiveness
* Excellent organization and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once
* Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with minimal hand-holding
* A proactive, ownership-driven mindset and a genuine willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
* MBA, or current MBA candidate
* Proficiency with PowerPoint / Google Slides and Word / Google Docs
* Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills, including building forecasts and models
* Familiarity with startup and venture capital environments
* Prior experience in consulting, operations, or a startup / Chief of Staff capacity
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are highly organized and naturally take ownership of whatever lands on your plate. You move comfortably between strategic thinking and hands-on execution, and you are energized rather than overwhelmed by variety. You communicate clearly, follow through without being chased, and are comfortable being the person who keeps work on track.
You want a front-row seat to how startups grow and how an advisory firm is built — and you are willing to roll up your sleeves to be part of both.
Why Join Us
* Direct exposure to the partners and to the inner workings of multiple high-growth startups
* A broad, generalist mandate with real ownership rather than a narrow lane
* The chance to help build a firm, not just execute within one
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and a performance-based bonus.

Tailor your CV to international standards — use a clean format, highlight remote work experience, and include your English proficiency. Many SA applicants succeed by emphasising their strong work ethic and cultural adaptability.
Load Shedding Preparedness
If you're applying for a remote role, having a backup power solution (UPS, inverter, or generator) and mobile data as a backup internet connection shows employers you're prepared for South Africa's infrastructure challenges.
