We are a veterinary practice devoted entirely to pet end-of-life care. Founded by veterinarians with decades of hospice experience, the company set out to fix a problem they kept seeing: the goodbye rarely matched the love families had for their pets. Honor Pet exists to change that.

Families are cared for through in-home euthanasia, a purpose-built Comfort Center with private rooms designed to feel like home, and eco-friendly water cremation (aquamation) that uses far less energy than traditional methods. Every pet stays in our care from the first conversation through aftercare, so families always know who is caring for their pet and what comes next. The company also partners with veterinary clinics and supports families through pre-planning consultations and grief support led by a licensed social worker.

This is a growing, mission-driven, founder-led company. The behind-the-scenes work matters as much as the work at the bedside, because clean billing, accurate records, and reliable operations are part of how families experience care during one of the hardest moments of their lives.

About the Role

As we grow, the financial and operational engine behind it has outgrown an informal approach. Invoices need to go out accurately and on time, accounts receivable needs consistent follow-up, partner-clinic auto-pay needs to run cleanly, California tax obligations need to be calculated and filed, and leadership needs clear reporting to make decisions. On top of that, our proprietary platform needs ongoing testing as it evolves.

This role brings all of that into one dependable seat. It is the person who owns the numbers and the operational details so the care team and leadership can stay focused on families. It suits someone who works independently, takes full ownership, and finds satisfaction in accuracy and order. Because it is a first-of-its-kind hire on this team, there is real room to shape how the function runs, and a clear path to grow with the company over time.

Key Responsibilities

Billing & Accounts Receivable
* Review and verify invoices for accuracy before they go out
* Send client invoices promptly and keep records organized and audit-ready
* Track accounts receivable and follow up to ensure timely collection
* Process monthly auto-pay charges for enrolled partner clinics with consistency and accuracy
* Flag and help resolve billing discrepancies before they affect cash flow

Finance & Compliance
* Calculate quarterly California sales and use tax obligations
* Prepare the associated filings and supporting documentation
* Support month-end financial organization and reconciliation as needed

Operations & Reporting
* Monitor veterinarian schedules to assess staffing coverage and proactively flag gaps
* Pull monthly reports and calculate key performance indicators, including appointment volume and utilization rates
* Translate data into clear, actionable summaries for leadership

Systems & Quality Assurance
* Run ongoing regression testing on our proprietary platform and validate new features as they are released
* Work fluidly across multiple software tools, adapting quickly to different systems and workflows
* Serve as an internal resource for identifying inconsistencies and verifying data integrity across platforms

Required Qualifications
* Strong attention to detail and a high degree of numerical accuracy
* Proficiency with Google Sheets, including formulas and structured data management
* Hands-on experience in billing, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, or a related finance function
* Strong written English, with the ability to turn data into clear summaries for leadership
* Comfort working across multiple software platforms, including proprietary or custom-built systems
* Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and consistently meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
* Familiarity with California sales and use tax reporting
* Experience with software testing, QA processes, or bug reporting
* Experience in a healthcare, veterinary, or multi-location services environment
