Job Description
Marketing Manager
Location / Employment:Fully remote (full U.S. Eastern overlap). Full-time IC. Reports directly to the CEO.
About the Company
We are a veteran-owned landscape design, installation, and outdoor living company serving the Jacksonville and Orlando, FL markets. The team designs and builds high-end outdoor spaces — custom landscapes, hardscapes, patios, fire features, pools, and exterior lighting — and was selected by ABC'sExtreme Makeover: Home Editionand featured by HGTV for the quality of its work. With a 4.7-star reputation across 180+ reviews, the company operates much like a construction firm specializing in new-build design projects. Recently acquired and now expanding from Jacksonville into Orlando, Scapes is investing in the infrastructure to support its next stage of growth.
About the Role
This is the company's first in-house marketing hire, and it exists to bring order and strategy to a function that is currently fragmented. Today, marketing is split across an outside social media agency and a separate SEO firm with no coordination between them and no internal owner. The CEO is looking for someone with real marketing chops to sit in the driver's seat: assess what's working, build a residential growth strategy from the ground up, and either manage the outside vendors or replace them by standing up an in-house team. This is a build-it role with a direct line to ownership — the person who takes it defines how we grow its residential business.
The focus is exclusively the residential, HOA, and home-builder side, where marketing can genuinely move the needle. The commercial side runs on public bids and existing relationships and is out of scope.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
* Audit current marketing efforts, vendors, and spend, and identify what to keep, fix, or cut
* Build a residential-focused marketing strategy and a concrete implementation plan
* Define target channels, messaging, and KPIs tied to lead volume and cost per acquisition
Channel & Campaign Management
* Own paid social (Meta/Facebook ads currently drive most leads) and search/SEO strategy
* Improve speed-to-lead and follow-up so inbound demand converts to booked estimates
* Leverage the company's veteran-owned identity and national TV credibility in brand messaging
Vendor & Team Management
* Evaluate and manage — or replace — the current social and SEO vendors
* Scope, hire, and manage future support roles as needed (video editor, graphic designer, media buyer)
Reporting & Optimization
* Track lead volume, lead quality, conversion, and marketing ROI
* Report performance and recommendations directly to the CEO
Required Qualifications
* 3+ years in B2C, local-services, or home-services marketing
* Demonstrated experience building a marketing strategy from scratch, not just executing within one
* Hands-on command of Meta/Facebook ads and oversight of SEO
* Vendor and/or team management experience
* Strong analytics and reporting ability
* Excellent written and spoken English; full U.S. Eastern time zone overlap
Preferred Qualifications
* Home services, contractor, or construction industry marketing
* Experience managing offshore creative or media-buying talent
* Local SEO and online reputation/review management
* CRM and marketing automation familiarity
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are strategic but still hands-on. You are comfortable operating without a playbook and can build structure where none exists. You think in terms of pipeline and ROI, not vanity metrics, and you can both design the plan and roll up your sleeves to execute it. You are proactive by nature — you surface problems and bring solutions rather than waiting for direction.
Why Join
This is a rare ground-floor marketing leadership seat with real autonomy and a direct relationship with the owner. You will build the function, choose the tools and team, and own the results of a growing, nationally recognized brand.
Tips for South African Applicants
Timezone Advantage
South Africa (SAST, UTC+2) overlaps well with European business hours and has a few hours of overlap with US East Coast. Mention your timezone flexibility in your application.
Salary in Context
At R46,250/month, this role is competitive with the average South African remote salary. The USD equivalent ($2,500/mo) benefits from the favourable exchange rate.
Application Tips
Tailor your CV to international standards — use a clean format, highlight remote work experience, and include your English proficiency. Many SA applicants succeed by emphasising their strong work ethic and cultural adaptability.
Load Shedding Preparedness
If you're applying for a remote role, having a backup power solution (UPS, inverter, or generator) and mobile data as a backup internet connection shows employers you're prepared for South Africa's infrastructure challenges.
