Position: Image Annotation Manager

Work Hours (Client): Monday to Friday(40 hours per week); flexible with US overlap)

Pay Range: $ 900 - $1,500 / month(varies based on skill set and experience level)

Our client is a San Francisco-based technology startup helping local governments make smarter infrastructure decisions through computer vision and geospatial data. Their platform analyzes roadway imagery to identify issues such as potholes, cracks, and other surface defects, enabling municipalities to prioritize maintenance projects and optimize infrastructure budgets. As the company continues to scale, they are building an internal Image Annotation team to improve data quality, accuracy, and long-term operational efficiency.

Role Overview:

The Image Annotation Manager will be responsible for accurately labeling roadway imagery to support the development and improvement of computer vision and machine learning models. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, consistency, and the ability to follow annotation guidelines while maintaining high-quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable performing repetitive analytical work, and interested in growing into more advanced quality assurance responsibilities. Top performers will have the opportunity to develop into QA specialists and help maintain annotation quality across the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Image Annotation
* Review and annotate geolocated roadway images using internal annotation tools
* Identify and label infrastructure features such as:PotholesRoad cracksSurface deteriorationAdditional roadway defects as required
* Potholes
* Road cracks
* Surface deterioration
* Additional roadway defects as required
* Follow established annotation guidelines to ensure consistency and accuracy
* Maintain high annotation quality while meeting productivity goals

Quality Control
* Perform self-quality checks before submitting completed work
* Review annotations for accuracy and completeness
* Identify inconsistencies or unclear image cases for escalation
* Maintain high-quality standards across all annotation tasks

Data Management
* Organize and manage annotation assignments
* Maintain accurate records of completed work
* Follow internal documentation and workflow procedures
* Ensure data integrity throughout the annotation process

Continuous Learning
* Complete the company's structured training and certification program
* Participate in ongoing quality reviews and performance evaluations
* Continuously improve annotation speed and accuracy
* Develop skills that support future Quality Assurance responsibilities

Team Collaboration
* Work closely with QA specialists and technical teams
* Provide feedback on annotation guidelines and workflow improvements
* Participate in calibration sessions to maintain annotation consistency
* Support continuous process improvement initiatives
Minimum Qualifications:

Language requirement:English

Experience:2–5 years of experience in image annotation, quality assurance, data labeling, data processing, or a similar detail-oriented role.

Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience with image annotation or computer vision datasets
* Experience working with GIS, mapping, or geospatial imagery
* Quality assurance or quality control experience
* Familiarity with machine learning or AI data labeling workflows
* Experience working within technology startups or fast-paced environments
