Estimator – Structural Steel (Joist & Metal Deck)

The OpportunityOur client is a leading national supplier of joists and metal deck packages, operating across all 50 states. They specialize in providing full-scope material packages, primarily working from structural drawings provided by fabricators.

As they scale their estimating department, they are looking for a highly skilled Structural Steel Estimator to join the team. This role is a critical link between engineering and sales, ensuring that material takeoffs for open-web steel bar joists and corrugated metal decking are precise, competitive, and technically sound.

The RoleThis is a high-level technical role that requires more than just counting beams. You will be responsible for a deep-dive analysis of structural drawings to determine exact material requirements. You will work closely with the Head of Estimating to transition takeoff operations to a real-time, collaborative timezone.

Key Responsibilities
* Analyze structural drawings and contract documents to determine precise material requirements
* Conduct takeoffs using Bluebeam for:Corrugated metal decking (measured in square feet), including accessoriesSteel joists and trusses (measured by piece count)

* Prepare detailed Scope of Work documents, including exclusions, clarifications, and conditions
* Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies or technical questions
* Input takeoffs into design and pricing software and maintain accurate records of bid documents and revisions
* Ensure all estimates are itemized, accurate, and verified before submission
Who You Are
* Expert in reading structural blueprints, especially open-web steel bar joist systems
* Advanced user of Bluebeam for takeoffs and markups
* Strong English communication skills for technical discussions with a US-based team
* Highly organized with strong attention to detail in documentation and record-keeping
Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Construction Estimator within Structural Steel (Joist & Metal Deck)
* Mastery of Bluebeam Revu required
* Experience with design and pricing software is a plus
* Background in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred
* Ability to work consistent US hours (EST/CST)
