Job Description
Inventory & Supply Chain Analyst (Growth Planner)
Role Overview
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Insights
* Mine insights from internal reporting tools and analytics platforms to provide vendors with high-value recommendations spanning consumer sentiment, search visibility, marketing performance, profit optimization, assortment planning, and market whitespace opportunities.
* Deliver proactive, insight-led growth strategies that directly drive revenue growth and operational efficiency rather than merely reporting historical figures.
Inventory Management & Optimization
* Analyze historical sales trends, supply chain lead times, and inventory expectations to ensure stock levels remain tightly aligned with item performance.
* Coordinate with vendors and client teams to adjust, shift, or cancel future production orders, minimizing inventory liability for all parties.
* Provide data-backed order recommendations, identify stockouts or inventory holes at the channel/store level, and present actionable allocation solutions.
* Monitor inventory flow for new item rollouts to ensure proper distribution and coverage across all sales channels.
* Propose markdowns and pricing strategies to clear excess or slow-moving inventory efficiently.
Sales Forecasting & Predictive Modeling
* Build and utilize predictive demand models based on historical sales trends, promotional calendars, and industry dynamics to project weekly and seasonal sales volumes.
* Quantify historical lost sales, calculate seasonal/yearly multipliers, and evaluate the incremental sales impact of past promotional events.
* Lead biannual planning and inventory review meetings with client teams, presenting full-season forecasts supported by robust analytical data.
Modeling, Systems & Reporting
* Build and update complex predictive models, daily sales trackers, order revision grids, and vendor workbooks comparing current performance against prior-year benchmarks.
* Maintain master data integrity across internal systems and navigate external client vendor portals (e.g., purchase order management, inventory allocation, and shipping applications).
* Generate monthly company-wide sales rollups, shipment forecasts for vendors, and executive summaries for ad hoc reporting requests.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
* Build and maintain strong, communicative relationships with client planners, inventory analysts, and vendor account teams.
* Act as a trusted advisor and collaborative problem-solver for internal leadership and external vendor partners.
* Lead internal financial rollup discussions and present comprehensive vendor summaries during recurring team meetings.
Candidate Qualifications
Required
* Experience Level:Mid-to-Senior level experience in supply chain analysis, retail inventory management, or demand planning.
* Insight-Driven Focus:Proven track record of moving beyond basic data entry to extracting actionable insights and commercial recommendations.
* Forward-Thinking Mindset:Ability to anticipate market shifts, spot supply chain risks or opportunities early, and execute proactive solutions.
* Client Presence:Exceptional communication skills, business acumen, and confidence to lead critical inventory and forecasting meetings with major retail clients.
* Technical Mastery:Advanced proficiency in data analysis, predictive modeling, and complex Excel spreadsheet design, along with hands-on experience navigating retail vendor and inventory portals.
Tips for South African Applicants
Timezone Advantage
South Africa (SAST, UTC+2) overlaps well with European business hours and has a few hours of overlap with US East Coast. Mention your timezone flexibility in your application.
Salary in Context
Even without a listed salary, international remote roles typically pay 2-3x more than equivalent local positions in South Africa due to the exchange rate advantage.
Application Tips
Tailor your CV to international standards — use a clean format, highlight remote work experience, and include your English proficiency. Many SA applicants succeed by emphasising their strong work ethic and cultural adaptability.
Load Shedding Preparedness
If you're applying for a remote role, having a backup power solution (UPS, inverter, or generator) and mobile data as a backup internet connection shows employers you're prepared for South Africa's infrastructure challenges.
